Ask for a report by text, get a spreadsheet back
A principal or class teacher texts the school's WhatsApp number — “attendance report for grade 1 for august” — and the report comes back as a spreadsheet, in the same chat. No login, no laptop, no waiting for the office to be open. Aggregate figures only: no child-level data leaves over WhatsApp. Registered staff numbers only; anyone else gets a polite note and nothing else.

Does SkoolBook send anything over WhatsApp or SMS?
WhatsApp, yes — since September 2026, on the Professional plan. Homework and daily classwork notices reach parents on WhatsApp through Meta's official Business Platform, with the worksheet attached where there is one. It is opt-in per guardian: a parent who has not consented receives nothing, and consent can be withdrawn. Announcements themselves are still delivered through the mobile app and the web portal. SMS is not built, and we would rather say that plainly than list an integration that isn't there.
Can I get a report without opening the laptop?
Yes. A principal or class teacher can text the school's WhatsApp number in plain words — “attendance report for grade 1 for august” — and the report comes back to the same chat as a spreadsheet, the same file you would have downloaded from the portal. It answers attendance by grade and by month today; more report types follow the same path. Two things worth knowing: it replies only to numbers the school office has registered for a named staff member, so a stranger who finds the number gets a courtesy note and no data — and it returns aggregate figures only. No individual child’s record is ever sent over WhatsApp.
What happens if a teacher changes their phone number?
The new phone has to prove it is theirs before anything moves. Changing the number in the profile shows a code on screen; the new handset sends that code to the school and confirms, and only then do reports and alerts follow it — at which point the old handset is detached and stops being recognised. Until it is confirmed, messages keep going to the number already on file, so there is no window where a change half-applies.
Can we send a notice to one section only?
Yes — announcements can be targeted to specific sections as well as to a broad audience like parents or staff.
Can parents see staff-only announcements?
No. Audience is enforced on the server against the reader's role, so a parent's request for a staff announcement returns nothing regardless of how it's made.
